Instructor: Ellen Carr, RN, MSN, AOCN
Ellen Carr, RN, MSN, AOCN, has been an oncology nurse for more than 25 years, currently specializing in the care of patients with head and neck cancer. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado, earning a bachelors of science in journalism. She completed her graduate work in oncology nursing at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston. She is a certified advanced oncology nurse.
Since 2002, she has been an oncology nurse case manager at the Moores UCSD (University of California, San Diego) Cancer Center. Over the years, her practice has included patients with head and neck cancer, breast cancer and hematological malignancies. She has been an active and contributing member of the national Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and its local chapter, serving in leadership and communication roles. Over the past 25 years, Ellen has continued to write about health care issues, with a focus on clinical nursing, therapeutic and diagnostic technologies and patient advocacy. She has authored text book chapters and peer-reviewed articles about cancer care, as well as a comprehensive oncology nursing course for SC Publishing/Western Schools, currently being updated for its 3rd revision. In 2007, she was honored as the Trish Greene Quality of Life lecturer at the ONS Institutes of Learning.
